When God spoke “let there be light” he set the standard for creativity: Bold, God glorifying, truth-telling beauty.

And we bear his image.

We are creators by divine design, modeling the character of our God, and it is our responsibility to steward that creativity well and with reverence. Our status as image bearers sets the foundation by which we pursue design, in which there is no room for mediocracy or apathy, for we do not model an apathetic God.

And we do not create without purpose.

God spoke all things into existence to tell something about himself, and he gave us instruments for creativity – our minds, our hands, our hearts – to do the very same. We cannot distort and appropriate this gift to our own ends.

The act of creating should be enjoyed by the creator, beauty should be beheld by the observer, but these acts cannot in themselves be separate from an aim to tell the truth, namely the truth about who God is and what he has done in sending his Son into the world.

This truth demands to be seen that it may be known.
